Artist Statement
I am investigating the relationship between nature and architecture. The question I am exploring is: How can I show the relationship between nature and architecture by incorporating aspects of architecture in nature? This question is important to me because I am not only fascinated by architecture and what human beings have built on this earth but I care about the effect our architectural success has on the nature surrounding it. I first used collage with magazines and played with the layering different mediums. Through my investigation, I learned how to use gouache which allowed me to approach the rest of my pieces with more consistency. By using this new medium my confidence grew and I decided I would investigate further. I asked: “how can I incorporate architecture to make nature appear man-made?” By answering this question, I realized that sometimes we don’t think about the source of our material world. My art raises awareness of the source of architecture that we forget about in our day-to-day lives.
